Our speaker was Sarah Player, the new Healthy Aging Program Director at Amesbury Council on Aging. She came on board in June after a year when the COA had no Director, and Sarah has acted quickly to understand the needs and wants of the senior citizens of Amesbury. Her background includes work as a physical therapist, as well as serving in state and local government positions that support people with disabilities.

Some of the ideas generated through Sarah's outreach are to have more evening events, nutrition and fitness programs, and movies. In coming months there will be a comedy night, Halloween party, Oktoberfest, and trips to Boston, Ogunquit, and Salem Willows.

Transportation is a challenge for many seniors, and the COA can help with MeVA, van transportation to the Senior Center, and rides to medical appointments through the Northern Essex Elder Transport (NEET) volunteer program.

There are many ways to get involved, and with so many new opportunities being offered, the COA looks forward to engaging even more of our community in its programs.
